Cover illustration commissioned by Fontana for Peter Cheyney’s novel Can Ladies Kill? - Peter Cheyney was Britain’s leading writer of hardboiled fiction – now enjoining a resurgence as classic noir. Cheyney was a police reporter and crime investigator for the Met until the success of his first novel. This illustration was for the fourth in Cheyney’s series of novels featuring a ruthless FBI agent Lemmy Constantine. A number of these novels were made into French B movies making of a star of actor Eddie Constantine in the role of Lemmy.
