Above Suspicion, a 1941 novel by Helen MacInnes was made into a film in 1943, starring Joan Crawford.  This is an example of how De Gaspari often used blocks of colour to focus his cover illustrations and his distinctive experiments with texture: layering different types of paper and sometimes even scratching the surfaces or rubbing sand into images.

North From Rome, is a cold war thriller novel, written by Helen MacInnes for which De Gaspari was commissioned to illustrate the cover.  Though originally published in 1958, Giordio De Gaspari’s illustration is clearly from a 1960s edition with its pared back focus on foreign travel, dramatic action and fashionable styling.
