Possibly for a novel set in the Algerian war.  This illustration captures the trade-mark characteristics of frontier adventure thriller.  The female model is the same woman used by Johnson for “Bang!”

Playwright, composer, director, performer and noted wit, by the late sixties Coward was seen as the grand old man of British theatre (he died in 1973).  Extremely well-connected, Coward habitually displayed invitations from notable persons on his mantelpiece, ostentatiously insisting on showing both the accepted and rejected missives.
